Joe B's Cornbread

Description:
Joe Bowman, a dear friend of ours who lives in the village, gave me his recipe for corn bread. It is wonderful! Serve it with lots of butter and a big bowl of Nana's Chili or brown beans!

Ingredients:
1 - Cup course ground corn meal
1 - Cup all-purpose flour
1/4 - Cup sugar
4 - Teaspoon baking powder
1/2 - Teaspoon salt
1 - Egg
1 - Cup milk
1/4 - Cup shortening (not oil)

Directions:
Mix all the above ingredients until smooth. Pour into a greased pan and bake at 425 degrees for 20 to 25 minutes. Serve hot with slabs of butter!
