Circa 1878. Constructed from limestone, this rustic country inn opened in 1865 as a hotel, expanding to a stagecoach station in 1878. It has retained its original limestone walls and pine floors and is now listed in the National Register. The Colonial guest bedroom boasts a clawfoot tub and four-poster bed, the Victorian features a slipper tub and shower. Expect a European flair in the Cosmopolitan, with a walk-in shower and the exotic Explorer offers a tub/shower combo. Browse the on-site antique/gift shop. Located on the historic Southwest Trail, the link which connected the Oregon Trail to the Santa Fe Trail, it is within 15 minutes of Topeka, an hour from Kansas City and Wichita.Location: Country and Small village.

Historic Interest

The inn was built during and post-Civil War by close friends of abolitionist John Brown and premier stone masons who also constructed part of state capitol. It is adjacent to former Mission Creek encampment areas of three Native American tribes, the Kanza, Massasoits, and Shawnee and is the original stage coach station and inn on old Southwest Trail, connecting the Oregon and Santa Fe.
