Description

Circa 1746. Built prior to the Revolutionary War, this slate blue house is an outstanding example of center chimney Colonial-style architecture. Listed in the National Register, the inn's original features include six working fireplaces, hand-hewn beams, wide board floors, a beehive oven and built-in cupboard. Four-poster and canopy beds, Oriental rugs and period furnishings accentuate the New England atmosphere. Fireplaces and Jacuzzi tubs invite romance and relaxation. On weekends a multi-course, candlelight breakfast is served in the elegant dining room. Enjoy homemade muffins or scones, fresh fruit and entrees such as heart-shaped blueberry pancakes or eggs Benedict. Among the variety of local historic house museums to visit, the William Hart house is across the street. The area offers many shopping and dining opportunities as well as galleries to explore. Beaches, a state park and river cruises also are available.Publicity and Awards: Yankee Magazine Features, Fodor's New England Travel Guide, America's Favorite Inns Book, Elle Magazine, Coastal Living Magazine, Inn Traveller Feature, Entrepreneur's Business Start-Ups Magazine, Inn Spots & Special Places in New England, Waterside Escapes by Woodpond Press, Arrington Publishing Awards: Most Historical Charm (2004), Best Interior Design & Decor (2003), Best Location For Walking to Shops and Restaurants (2002).Location: Country, Ocean Community, Historic and shopping district.
