Description
Circa 1824. On the town square, this is the oldest continually operating inn in the state. Presidents Andrew Jackson, James Polk and Andrew Johnson stayed here. McKinney Tavern, as it was known then, was Union headquarters during the Civil War. Canopy beds, working fireplaces and an evening meal by candlelight in the elegant dining room all make for a romantic stay. (Bring your own wine.) A formal garden with a gazebo recently has been restored.Publicity and Awards: Miami Herald, Southern Living, Travel South, Knoxville News Sentinel, Times News.Location: Mountains, City/Urban and Historic Downtown.
