Historic Interest

Built by a German tailor in 1897 as the Grand Canyon's whorehouse and saloon, the Red Garter sits on historic Route 66 across from the Grand Canyon Railway. Richardsonian Romanesque in design, it boasted a two-story outhouse and housed an opium den at the rear of the building. While clients seldom left their names, Governor George W.P. Hunt was an occasional poker player in the saloon downstairs.
