Description
Circa 1830. This adobe, whose 130,000 acres is located 65 miles southwest of Tucson, provides a wondrous glimpse back to the old Southwest. The grounds, first settled by Jesuits in the late 17th century, feature a cantina built in the 1700s, as well as the main hacienda, which dates to the 1830s. The interior, with its exposed log beams, thick adobe walls and authentic decor, is reminiscent of Colonial Mexico. Each room includes a wood-burning fireplace. There is a spa, pool and trails for hiking, horseback riding and mountain biking where guests can enjoy the surrounding Buenos Aires National Wildlife Refuge. Rates include breakfast, a Southwestern lunch and dinner. The historic adobe has hosted such notable guests as Lyndon Johnson, Adlai Stevenson, Tom Mix and Margaret Mitchell.Publicity and Awards: National Geographic's Arizona-Sonora Desert Region map, Bon Appetit, Travel & Leisure, Outside Magazine, Architectural Digest, Marie France, Rizzoli Publications (Mountain and Desert Hideaways), 2006 Arizona Getaways for the Incurably Romantic, The Desert Home, Arizona Highways, Hip Hotels USA, Highroads, Fine Living Channel: Great Hotels You have Never Heard Of, Animal Planet, AZ Highways travel TV, MSNBC Vacation Destinations, Chico's commercial, Chico's Fashions magazine, Territory Ahead.Location: Country and 65 miles Southwest of Tucson.
