Description
Circa 1819. Gaze out over the scenic Erie Canal from your private balcony in this 1818 Greek Revival mansion listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Built by George Caspar von Schroeppel, a German immigrant who helped develop the canal, the inn has retained a number of original features including hand-carved moldings and cornices, woodspindle staircases, marble and stone fireplaces and a tin ceiling. The inn sits on three acres that include manicured lawns and gardens and an acre of woods with private paths to the dock and river. Its three guest rooms are furnished with antiques and have Oriental rugs and two-person whirlpool tubs. Start your day with a full breakfast in the dining room with its hand-carved mahogany fireplace. Swim, fish or go boating from the inn's private dock or visit nearby Syracuse University or the Erie Canal Museum.Location: Waterfront and On the Erie Canal.
