Historic Interest
Francis Saltz, a pioneer in the Mohawk Valley was the first to own the land on which this historic home was built. His gravesite has not survived, although it is said by genealogists to be in back of the house between the barn and the pond. The Federal brick house, once a tavern, was built by John Voorhees during the years 1790-1819. A stagecoach trail (dugway) is still accessible on the blue bank cliff behind the house. Reportedly, the home was a stop on the underground railroad.
