Description

Circa 1872. Nineteenth-century brass beds and antiques original to this three-story Carpenter Gothic Victorian give the Brass Bed Inn a particular uniqueness in its Historic District setting. Oriental carpets, vintage wallpapers and the old-fashioned wraparound veranda filled with rockers make it easy to envision the home's original life as a private seaside retreat. Guests enjoy watching the horses and carriages pass by or occasionally stop while an engagement ring or proposal is offered to a surprised beloved. Full stick-to-your-ribs breakfasts are served hearthside in the morning and include freshly baked cakes, scones or pineapple bread pudding, all made from scratch. Butterfly bushes, lilies, roses and baby's breath fill the garden. Most surprising is the unusual color of the hydrangeas -- red -- due to the iron in the hairpin lace fence that has encircled the home all these years. The water is one block away.Location: Ocean Community and National Seashore.
