Circa 1716. Henry Ford founded the non-profit corporation that manages the Wayside Inn in 1944, to preserve it as a historic and literary shrine. The inn's second owner is known to have led the colonists of Sudbury on the march to Concord on April 19, 1775, toward the Old North Bridge. Originally opened as How's Tavern in 1716, it later became Red Horse Tavern. Finally, in 1897, a new owner, acknowledging the popular association with Longfellow's poem Tales of a Wayside Inn, changed the name. The Old Barroom, Longfellow's Parlor, the pianoforte and grandfather clock are all here. A reproduction Grist Mill, and the Redstone Schoolhouse are open for touring.
