Description

Circa 1906. This American Four Square-style home was built of old growth Douglas Fir by gold rush pioneer John Olds. Olds was one of the first miners in the Juneau area after word got out about the discovery of gold, and he became the mayor. The inn is furnished in period antique pieces and newer Stickley pieces. A gourmet breakfast is served on china and with silver and it incorporates local seafood specialties. A lucky guest might awake to a treat like a smoked salmon omelet or a crab quiche. The inn has seven guest bedrooms. It is within the downtown historic district, next door to a park with a 100-year-old lilac tree, and it has mountain views. The inn has a yard with room for croquet and secluded areas to swing in the hammock. Its rear porch is a perfect place to eat breakfast or just relax.Publicity and Awards: Frommer's, Fodors, Lonely Planet, Rough Guide, Moon Handbooks, Best in Alaska 2003 Arrington's, HGTV "If walls could talk.", voted "2003 Best in Alaska".Location: Ocean Community.

Reviews

“I've stayed at Alaska's Capital Inn both for business and pleasure, and chose it for an in town romantic holiday with my husband because I enjoyed the hosts and the building's historical character. It is within walking distance of everything downtown, but you just may want to sip a glass of complimentary wine and relax on the porch or in the hot tub. Great stories and food, including specialty meals by prior arrangement. A Juneau standout!”
