“My girlfriend and I usually frequent Manitou Springs several times a year for the cool shops, the penny arcade and the Hungarian goulash served at the European Cafe. This time, we wanted to stay a couple of nights to get a few more attractions in and to be able to see everything we wanted without running out of time. I did a Google search and came up with a few different bed and breakfasts, but this particular site had some great photos of the rooms and was very reasonably priced. We met our host Gwenn on arrival and she was not only very accommodating, but was also an excellent cook. As the other reviews have stated, there were muffins, cookies, quiches, fruit with yogurt, etc. Everything was very delicious. I believe if you stayed in the B & B before last December, it's had a huge change in decor, according to the photos I've seen and it's a vast improvement. The location couldn't be better. You can find parking around the back and then downtown Manitou is literally right outside the front door. The Cog Railway to Pike's Peak is down a few blocks past several antique shops, art and photo galleries, eateries, and other cool shops like the RetroMoto toy store and Dulcimer music shop. Gwenn had plenty of brochures right outside of our room and we came across an ad for a wolf sanctuary that was only about half an hour away from our location. On a whim, we decided to visit and for a small donation of $10 per adult, we had an excellent time. Being able to come back to a clean, well decorated room made our visit one of the best times we've had in Manitou Springs. We love this area, so we'll definitely will be back and will definitely be staying here again.”

“Manitou Jewel In our Colorado journeys, we stumbled upon the Avenue House, and what a treasure we found. We were greeted by the proprietor Gwen and her daughter Anna along with the aroma of freshly baked cookies and an offering of a glass of wine…need I say more? The home was absolutely lovely; the third B & B that we “lived” at in our travels, it was full of charm and coziness. We felt welcomed and at home for the next couple of nights. The place had fresh cut tulips and roses to make the rooms so alive. The claw tub was a dream to fill with bubbles and slip away to a different century! The home was spotless yet comfortable to cuddle on the couch and watch TV by the fireplace. The breakfast was scrumptious…I learned how to bake grapefruit; coming from Florida you would think I would have already tasted such a delicious treat. Quiche, baked muffins, freshly made juices, and all served on beautiful Victorian dishes. Everyone was very informative on the area and brought new ideas of fun things to do while we were there. We absolutely loved our time staying at the Avenue House, and it will live forever in our hearts as we relived the wonderful memories for years to come. Thank you for your generous hospitality! We miss Colorado and all the fine people we met there! Peace, Debra and Rick June 13, 2009”
