Circa 1898. This Queen Anne Victorian-style home was built by Major Robert Waugh, who was the oldest Civil War veteran in Colorado at the time of his death in 1929. The inn has been magnificently restored and now is a beautiful representation of the best of that era's architecture, woodworking and attention to detail. The entry has eight beveled-glass windows, the interior has intricate tiger-eye oak woodwork and the parlor boasts a Van Briggle tiled fireplace. The three-story inn has a multi-gabled roof with fish-scale shingles, a balcony that overlooks a nearby park and a wraparound porch with Tuscan columns and dentil detailing. The inn offers five guest bedrooms and one suite, all of which have at least one luxury amenity like a jetted tub, gas-log fireplace, attached sitting room or balcony. The inn's gourmet breakfast includes pastries or muffins, whole-grain cereals, seasonal fruit and a hot entrée. After a great breakfast guests can travel eight miles to Pike's Peak and five miles to the Garden of the Gods.
