“From the moment we arrived, I could tell this was a special place. The owners were great and knowledgable. The rooms was amazingly romantic. The breakfast was filling and so delicous. I can't say enough. We will be back!!”

“We needed to escape the destruction of the Oct Halloween winter storm and the horrendous cleaning up of the trees and branches. We could not have had a better relaxing weekend- your house , you hospitality, was just perfect. You must have breakfast here. That is the one thing I will do the next time I come back- breakfast every morning- set back, relax and pretend you are in the past when everything is less frantic. Thanksgiving dinner at the Spiced Pear was excellent. A dinner at Bouchards was incredible. We never thought a restaurant could out do the Dune in Nantucket but this place really did! It is a definite MUST!”
— Nancy and Bud U
“Our daughter gave us this overnight away from the everyday rushings, what a beautiful gift! It started off by meeting the housekeeper, CiCi, she was so delightful and took us on our tour of the many rooms we able to sit back and enjoy as well as admire the beautiful things that brought us back to days of old and memories. We met Brian who has the perfect personality for making you feel this was a family home and you were family too. We visited some of the homes on display and ate lobster at Anthony's in Middletown. This will be a gift to ourselves in the future, we will be back.”
— Claire and Jim P
“We celebrated our 18th wedding anniversary with a little Murder and Mystery! We had a blast! Brian is so personable and he welcomed us to his home as though we were long lost friends! The Inn is absolutely gorgeous and I couldn't stop admiring the floors, decor and how "homey" it felt. Newport is fantastic. It's been almost 11 years sincee we were here last and it was nice to see some of our old haunts are still around. Anyway, we had a great stay and can't wait to do it again! Maybe even be the murderer next time!”
— Beth and Mike V
“What an amazing time! Everything was so lovely. Nick and Brian have truly thought of everything. The porch of this house is definitely one of my favorite places in the world. We ate at the fabulous Restaurant Bouchard (twice) and it is not to be missed. We will certainly be back in the winter time to hide away from the world. Locked in this room with the fire going for days! Maybe pizza delivery then too! CAN'T WAIT!!”
— Allison & Andrew D
“Even for a short time, it was like being with family :-) And if we'll be another time in Newport (very beautiful place) we'd like to come here again. Sorry for our poor english and best wishes from Italy.”
— Irene C
“We had such a wonderful time this weekend at your Inn. The room was beautiful and the food was delicious. We did the "I do or I Die!" Mystery weekend and it was more fun than we could have imagined! We are looking forward to participating in another one! We are getting married in Newport Next year and we will be recommending both of your inns to our wedding guests! Thank you again for such a wonderful experience!”
— Kelly and Greg M
“Very enjoyable stay at Nick and Brian's Architects Inn. We wanted to be able to walk to restaurants in the evening (after all, we can't drive after sharing a bottle of wine). We found that two of the best restaurants are only 15 minutes stroll away.”
— Phil and Pam W
“What a fantastic place to be...Newport and the Architect's Inn! The hospitality and breakfast were out of this world.”

“Friday night, we needed a place to stop on our way back from Bar Harbor heading to Philadelphia. We had made reservations here. We had never been to Newport. We were so impressed by this Inn. We love to stay at B&B's and this one was truly special!!! The Belmont Room is just beautiful and so cozy. We only had time for dinner and sunset cruise.-which we enjoyed very much. The next day we did Cliff Walk after check out. I wish we were staying longer-we will have to come back and we will stay here again!”
— Kim and Ryan B
“Here for a Murder Mystery Weekend! We love this Inn- our bedroom was so cozy and especially loved the fire in the fireplace. We slept soundly on the very comfortable bed-snug as bugs in a rug! The presentation of the food was beautiful and it was so delicious-everything home made! Newport is a great place to visit. We toured 3 homes -or should I say Mansion-the Breakers, Marble House and the Elms. Winter is a great time to view these properties no crowds-very relaxing! Free Parking too! We had an absolute ball at this Murder Mystery in the Roarin' 20's. Doing costumes made it even more fun. The plot was complicated but everybody got into it. We had so many laughs. I would definitely recommend it to everybody!”
— Perry and Daisy P
“My husband and I really enjoyed staying in the Belmont Room. I felt like I was back in time. The decorating is beautiful. Great taste. Breakfast was delicious. Enjoyed our talk with Brian. I will be back.”

“I travel through Newport once a week during the summer to spearfish but have never vacationed here. My wife and I had an unexpected change in our schedule that allowed us to spend the weekend here. The Architect's Inn as beautiful, relaxing and put back in time! We only stayed one night but we would love to have stayed a week. We would love to try another room next time. Our room was clean, nicely decorated and had a very comfy bed. We had dinner downtown. It's a close walk from the Inn.”
— Kevin and Colleen H
“We had a great time. Our only complaint was that our time was too short. There is so much to do in Newport. We are going to have to make this a quarterly vacation so we can see everything in the city. Nick and Brian were such good hosts. They let us on their boat rental for the afternoon. It was just perfect.”
— Erin and Kraig E
“Lovely house! Great food but the best part was Nick and Brian and the warmth and personal touch they brought to our stay.”
— Judy and Joe t
“As an architect-in-training, the Architect's Inn lived up to its billing-simply beautiful and sumptuous decor, delicious cookies, and an overall lovely place to spend time together for us as a couple.”

“Gracious hosts, Brian and Nick. Our stay was quiet and exactly as expected-wonderful! Our bed in the Belmont Room was amazing. Moving around in the house made us feel as we had gone back in time. The hosts also had terrific recommendations and tips that saved us so much time. We got such a kick out of them and used them to find new things around Newport. We will always think of this Inn as part of our trip to see our first grandchild.”
— Joe and Margaret N
“Thanks to Nick and Brian, we had an amazing stay at the Architect's Inn! Breakfast was fantastic and we enjoyed the friendly atmosphere. During our stay, we visited the Elms mansion-gorgeous! We went to the Newport Airport-Newport Skydiving in the Middletown, RI. It was definitely a crazy thrilling experience neither of us will ever forget. We also recommend a relaxing couples massage. Waking up early made it well worth it. Before we left, we went to the Breakers. It was a great experience and it all started with this Inn.”
— Jody and Jocelyn R
“We couldn't have found a better place for our anniversary. Nick and Brian's recommendation were 100% perfect for us. We only wish we had more time to spend. Newport is now one of those places that we will hope and plan to return to.”

“Our first stay here and it will not be our last! I believe Nick was the only staff! He was extremely pleasant and helpful---and he's a great cook!! If you are not here for the murder mystery weekend you need to come back. It was awesome! So much fun. Nick recommended Anthony's Seafood and Flo's for clam strips. We ate at Anthony's-very casual very good. This was a vacation we will always remember.”
— Allison and Sean F
“We dropped our 17 year old at Boston College. It is our 22nd anniversary date. We had decided that instead of returning directly home, we would take a side trip. Without knowing where we would stay, we picked the Architect's Inn off the web-site unseen, no ones recommendations, etc. I was looking for a quiet place to relax. We heard about the mansions and figured we should stay in one. We loved it!! Brian's breakfast is such a wonderful treat. Who knew you could do so much with eggs. The weekend was great. We would return as well as recommend this Inn.”
— Jim and Maria B
“The week was wonderful. The accommodations were terrific and romantic, the breakfasts were very special. The blueberry stuffed french toast was superb. We found this beautiful home very lovingly maintained and super clean. Nick and Brian are talented and personable. We didn't get to speak to Brian much but we did with Nick and we really enjoyed our conversations.”

“Having just returned from Newport, where I stayed at this B & B, I can not say enough wonderful things about this exceptional B & B. This mansion is a journey back to Newport's Gilded Age.The house is close to town, but in a peaceful quite Neighborhood, great for sleeping. The interior is filled with beautiful antiques, great ambiance thru out the place,,fireplaces everywhere, including most guestrooms.all very romantic and charming. The owners are two very special young men. Recommended to all for a special experience in a wonderful town and vacation destination.”
— Thomas Smith
“After having read the positive reviews, we made a reservation for two nights at Architect's Inn. We can confirm that it is as good as the reviews say. In fact, we extended our stay for two additional nights since we enjoyed it so much. The room was nicely decorated and very clean and Nick and Brian are super-friendly. Next time we are going to Newport we know where to stay. Highly recommended!”
— Henrik Johansson
“We were floored at the beauty of the Architect's Inn from the moment we walked through the front door. Every inch is decorated with antiques and the house itself is very well preserved. Our room looked great (we immediately sent pictures to our friends) and was very comfortable (despite the Victorian foundation the bed was more comfortable than at home and the shower had excellent hot water pressure). Nick & Brian were wonderful hosts, providing a great breakfast each morning and great tips of things to do around town (all of which were a short walk away). We had a great time and can't wait to go back!”
— sam neubardt

“I cannot speak highly enough about the architects inn. The owners Brian and Nick were very welcoming and it was a pleasure sitting at breakfast with them. If you are not sure what you want to do in Newport, be sure to ask Nick and Brian - they were spot on in recommendations. The Redwood room was incredible. Very cozy and extremely comfortable. We only wished the weather was cooler so we could have lit the fireplace. We will definitely be back.”
— John Mastrantonio
“My girlfriend and I came here for a weekend getaway and can't say enough good things about this place; the building is beautifully maintained and a short walk from just about everything in Newport. Service was stellar, and the breakfast the next morning was fantastic. We weren't able to meet Nick, but Brian was a fantastic host, and made us feel truly welcome. If you're looking for a stellar bed and breakfast in Newport, this is it!”
— Dan Rauch
“
The Inn was gorgeous. The room was charming. The decor was lovely. We loved the fireplace near the bed! It made for a very romantic evening. The location was great. It was close to restaurants and other attractions. The Inn keeper's recommendations of restaurants and nightlife was knowledgable and very helpful. The minor problems with towels and water were addressed within minutes. I was surprised that breakfast was not included in the room rate. Even so, I recommend this historic Newport Inn.”

“The Woodbine Cottage House - AKA The Architect's Inn - George Champlin Mason House is a filthy dive! We get there and the front door is locked. I ring the bell and there's no answer. Out front I see I guy smoking a cigarette - who I later find out was one of the owners - Brian, and tell him that we have reservations. He says to call Nick (his partner) on his cell. Brian saw us waiting for Nick but did nothing to help. And Nick doesn't answer his phone, but about 30 minutes later, he opens the door. He tells us to come back in 2 hours - that the room wasn't ready. I explain that it was already after 3:00 PM and that was the check-in time on our confirmation. Again, he says to come back in 2 hours. We had just driven 4 hours to get here and so we asked if we could use the bathroom. Nick said, "no" that we can find a bathroom in town. Glad he thought so - the only bathrooms in town were in restaurants and we weren't planning on having dinner at 3:45 in the afternoon.
It's now almost 6:00 PM and we're back at the The Woodbine Cottage House - George Champlin Mason House / AKA The Architect's Inn. Again, the door is locked again and we ring the bell. After 10 minutes Nick comes to the door, lets us in and tells us that our room is on the 3rd floor. My husband and I both have difficulty climbing stairs - especially this very steep narrow staircase. When I asked for another room he said that all the other rooms were requested or occupied. I then asked him if he would carry our bags, and his response was, "No, and I'm not your slave." I kid you not. Those were his exact words! The worst part was when we get to our room and find that the garbage can was full, the carpet was filthy, the sheets and towels looked like they were never laundered, there was no way the bathroom was cleaned from the previous renter, and the toiletries were used. This place was such a filthy dive that there was no way we could stay there. When we got downstairs and asked Nick for a refund, he had the audacity to laugh at us. He then yelled (and cursed) and demanded that we get off his property immediately (the exact words that he uttered aren't fit to write) and until we safely drove away we were literally afraid for our lives.
And let me also say that I made the mistake of not thoroughly reading the reviews before I booked The Woodbine Cottage House / Architect's Inn - George Champlin Mason House. But after this incident I went back and read them and it didn't take long to notice that all these 5 star reviews sounded the same and had the same writing style. It then became obviously clear to me that Nick Malone and Brian Malone wrote them all themselves. Why else would each one of these positive reviews talk about the owners - Nick did this.... Brian did this....? If these reviews were in fact genuine, would every guest feel it necessary to mention the owners by name in every positive review? So just beware of this when you read any positive reviews on The Woodbine Cottage House / AKA The Architect's Inn - George Champlin Mason House because there's no way that this place deserves anything above 1 star. Also take a good look at the negative reviews - every reviewer is basically saying the same thing - the owners are arrogant and the place is a filthy dive. Go to Yelp and read that Loretta calls it "tired and shabby in appearance", Walter says it's a "creepy place with even creepier innkeepers", Emma calls it "sinister", and Rob says it looks like "Miss Havisham's house in Great Expectations" - you get the picture! And do also read the defensiveness and arrogance in Nick Malone and Brian Malone's responses. Maybe if these owners - Nick and Brian Malone - spent more time on making the The Woodbine Cottage / AKA Architect's Inn - George Champlin Mason House a place of distinction rather than monitoring and writing fake reviews on Yelp and on Trip Advisor they'd have a place that would get positive reviews from REAL people. Too bad I can't give it 0 hearts because that's what it deserves!”
